The Redeemer Reserve Pinot Noir 2018
Redemption is a beautiful thing; some seek it in spirit but we believe it comes from nature.
When the weather gods align, we take the opportunity to make The Redeemer, our reserve Pinot Noir.
From the hand harvest the best fruit is selected, with 10% retained as whole bunch then vinified using a mix of wild and cultured yeasts. After hand plunging it is pressed to barrel, with 20% new French oak. Here it spends 10 months before blending, bottling and cellar aging.
The result is a harmonious blend of ripe dark cherry flavoured fruit with a firm oak backbone. Highly fragrant, rounded on the palate with a long smooth finish.
Drinking beautifully already but the fine tannin structure and Oak backbone will reward cellaring out to 2025.
A food wine ideally partnering dark meats or rich cheeses.

Crafted out in Mangatahi, on terraces high above the Ngaruroro river in the Maraekakaho area of Hawke’s Bay, it’s a seriously fragrant, cherry and dried herb-hefty style from a brand so small and under the radar, they’re practically subterranean. There’s a black tea and cranberry character on the mid-palate, fine-grained tannins and a long, elegantly structured finish. I love it.
