The Optimist Pinot Noir 2019

Growing Pinot Noir for fine table wine is not for the faint hearted.

This fickle beast tests your humor but when in harmony with the site and handled with care it will reward with elegant, nuanced wine telling the story of its place.

After hand harvesting by the Wairiki “family” selected batches were inoculated with a range of yeasts with some batches wild fermented (for a walk on the dark side).

The open ferments were hand plunged before being pressed to seasoned barrels for 8 months maturation then blended before bottling and cellar aging.

The 2019 Optimist exhibits fine dark berry fruit aromatics, a slightly savory palate all supported by a harmonious Oak backbone.

Ideally matched with red meats, especially lamb, but try it with your favourite chocolate bar or fruit cake for something a bit different.

Available in 6 and 12 count cartons that can be mixed with other Wairiki wines.
